U.S. Backs Indonesia's OECD Accession Efforts

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has expressed support for Indonesia’s accelerated application to join the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). This commitment was highlighted in a Joint Statement by President Biden and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, published on the White House website on Tuesday, November 12. The statement underscores the OECD's role in advancing robust and responsible policies that drive quality economic growth. While Indonesia’s accession process is ongoing, the U.S. aims to collaborate closely with Indonesia to ensure successful alignment with OECD standards, supporting necessary reforms in economic governance, trade, and employment practices.

Both leaders reiterated their dedication to a rules-based international trading system and emphasized the role of multilateral institutions and standards in promoting fair and open trade. Additionally, they pledged to enhance dialogue to resolve World Trade Organization (WTO) disputes. Recognizing the importance of diversified mineral supply chains for manufacturing and economic growth, Presidents Biden and Prabowo committed to developing sustainable mineral supply chains through a mutually beneficial partnership. This collaboration aims to support the global clean energy transition by upholding environmental and labor standards. The two leaders agreed to advance ongoing discussions to facilitate mineral supply chain partnerships between the U.S. and Indonesia.
