Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Central Kalimantan, Agnes Widiastuti, announced that the economy of Central Kalimantan grew by 4.64% in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year. This growth reflects significant improvements across various economic sectors in the province. The sector with the highest growth was Other Services, which saw an increase of 12.71%. The Mining and Quarrying sector also showed strong growth at 9.69%, followed by the Accommodation and Food Services sector, which grew by 8.85%. However, the Government Administration, Defense, and Mandatory Social Security sector experienced a contraction of -0.67%.

Agnes explained that, in terms of sources of economic growth, the Mining and Quarrying sector made the largest contribution, accounting for 1.25%. The Wholesale and Retail Trade; Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Repair sector contributed 0.79%, while the Construction sector contributed 0.58%. The Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Central Kalimantan for Q3 2024, based on current prices, is dominated by the Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries sector, contributing 22.89%. The Manufacturing sector contributed 15.29%, and Wholesale and Retail Trade; Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Repair made up 12.64%. Together, these three sectors account for over half of Central Kalimantan's economy, or 50.81%. Agnes expressed optimism that this positive economic growth reflects the success of various development programs in the province, and she is confident that continued improvements in program quality and effectiveness will achieve sustainable economic growth. With stable growth and significant contributions from various sectors, Central Kalimantan is expected to continue improving the welfare of its people and strengthening its economic position at the national level.
