President Prabowo Subianto has set an ambitious goal to bring the USD exchange rate to IDR 5,000 by advancing downstream programs for six key agricultural commodities. The government will prioritize coconut and clove, alongside palm oil, pepper, cocoa, and coffee, in a strategic effort to enhance the added value of these resources. Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman highlighted Indonesia’s potential to generate an estimated IDR 600 trillion in export value from these six commodities, emphasizing that downstream processing could multiply their value up to 20 times, pushing total export revenues to IDR 12,000 trillion.
Minister Amran added that boosting downstream processing for these commodities would not only increase export earnings but also strengthen the rupiah's exchange rate, aligning with President Prabowo’s goal of reaching IDR 5,000 per USD within the next 5 to 10 years. This vision reflects the government’s determination to create substantial economic gains and currency stability through focused export initiatives and value-added agricultural products.
