During his visit to the United States on November 10, 2024, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto held important discussions with executives from three of the world’s largest oil and gas companies, who are reportedly interested in investing in Indonesia’s renewable energy sector (EBT). Prabowo’s meetings, which were part of his official trip, focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration in clean energy projects. These global companies—whose identities have not been revealed—are particularly keen on investing in Indonesia’s growing renewable energy market, including solar, wind, and geothermal energy. This interest reflects the country’s significant potential as a hub for renewable energy, given its vast natural resources and strategic geographic location.
Indonesia is actively working to transition its energy sector to cleaner sources as part of its broader commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060. The government has set ambitious targets to increase the share of renewable energy in its national energy mix, and with the support of these major energy giants, it could significantly accelerate this transition. The potential investments from these companies are expected to bring advanced technology, substantial financial backing, and expertise in renewable energy development to Indonesia. This cooperation would not only support the country's climate goals but also strengthen its position as a key player in the global renewable energy market, attracting further international investments.
