In collaboration with the Belu Regency Government, the National Border Management Agency (BNPP), and Bank Indonesia (BI), the Atambua Customs Office will organize the Atambua International Expo 2024 on November 11, 2024, at the Motaain Border Crossing Post (PLBN), Silawan Village, Belu Regency. This event aims to stimulate the local economy in the Indonesia-Timor Leste border region by promoting the development of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), helping them become export-ready. The expo is also part of the celebrations for the 78th Indonesian Oeang Day (HORI) at the border.
Bambang Tutuko, the Head of the Atambua Customs Office, explained that the Expo serves as a platform for MSMEs, particularly those in border areas, to showcase their products, expand their market reach, and connect with potential buyers from both Indonesia and Timor Leste. He hopes that the event will lead to increased exports from Atambua to Timor Leste and vice versa, contributing to the economic growth in the border region. The expo will feature product exhibitions from MSMEs, small and medium industries (IKM), and exporters from both countries. Other activities include the destruction and donation of state-owned goods (BMMN), laboratory demonstrations by the Surabaya Customs Laboratory, business matching sessions, a first export to Timor Leste, MSME export coaching clinics, affordable markets for border communities, and socialization of customs, excise, and taxation regulations. An interactive talk show will focus on "empowering MSMEs at the border to scale up and become export-ready," aiming to boost economic growth in the region. Bambang further emphasized that Atambua Customs remains committed to maintaining integrity in supervision and providing the best service at the border.
