Indonesia Recognized for its Food & Beverage Industry Potential as Host of SIAL Interfood 25th Exhibition

The Ministry of Trade has welcomed Jakarta’s selection as the host city for the 25th edition of the world’s largest food and beverage exhibition, SIAL Interfood, scheduled to take place from November 13 to 16, 2024, at the Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran. This recognition underscores the global acknowledgment of Indonesia's food and beverage industry potential. Mardyana Listyowati, the Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, shared this sentiment during a press conference on November 8, 2024, in Jakarta. In her remarks, she highlighted the Ministry’s focus on three main programs in the coming years: strengthening domestic markets, expanding export markets, and enhancing the export capacity of SMEs through the BISA Export initiative (Berani Inovasi, Siap Adaptasi Ekspor). The hosting of SIAL Interfood aligns with these programs, aiming to promote Indonesian products globally and enhance export opportunities.

The exhibition is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the promotion and export information of Indonesian food and beverage products, which have been in high demand globally. In the past five years (2019-2023), processed food and beverage exports have grown by 6.81%, with a total export value of USD 3.59 billion from January to August 2024, reflecting a 6.48% increase from the previous year. Popular exports include seafood products like shrimp and crab, as well as biscuits and pasta, which have seen significant global market share. With increasing economic growth in non-traditional markets such as ASEAN, Latin America, the Middle East, and South Asia, Indonesia is actively seeking new markets to capitalize on the rising purchasing power in these regions. Miftah Farid, the Director of Export Development for Primary Products, emphasized the role of all stakeholders in seizing export opportunities, particularly for MSMEs. The event will further enhance the growth of Indonesia’s food and beverage industry and contribute to the country’s export expansion.
