In a meeting with corporate members of the U.S.-Indonesia Society (USINDO) in Washington, D.C., on Monday (11/11), Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto encouraged further investment from American companies. According to a press release, Prabowo engaged directly with leaders from major U.S. corporations with longstanding investments in Indonesia, including Freeport, Chevron, General Electric, and others. He expressed enthusiasm for their commitment to Indonesia's economic growth and urged continued participation in the country’s development plans. “These companies are deeply involved in Indonesia’s economy and development, and they continue to trust in Indonesia’s future,” said Prabowo. Accompanied by Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Rosan Roeslani, the discussions were reported to be productive, with Prabowo underscoring a zero-tolerance stance on corruption, which he called an “economic cancer.”
Renewable energy was also a focal point of the meeting, with several energy companies expressing interest in investing in carbon capture and geothermal technology to support Indonesia’s net-zero emissions target. Rosan highlighted the importance of reducing bureaucratic obstacles to make foreign investment more beneficial for all Indonesians. U.S. Deputy Ambassador and USINDO advisor Ted Osius appreciated Prabowo’s pro-business approach, noting plans to bring American business leaders to Indonesia in early December. Osius remarked, “We are thrilled to have a president in Indonesia who is strongly pro-business and welcoming to U.S. and global investments.” Joining Prabowo at the meeting were Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of Investment Rosan Roeslani, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Deputy Minister for Higher Education, Science, and Technology Stella Christie, and Indonesian Embassy representative in Washington, D.C., Ida Bagus Made Bimantara.
