The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has reported a notable boost in the region's processing industry in the third quarter of 2024, primarily driven by the tobacco harvest season. According to BPS NTB, the tobacco processing sector played a key role in this growth, alongside other industries such as food and beverages, textiles, and various manufactured goods. Ahmad Shobirin, head of BPS NTB, highlighted that the tobacco harvest this year significantly impacted the processing industry, leading to increased demand for tobacco products both locally and nationally, a trend that has traditionally supported regional economic growth during harvest time.
In addition to the tobacco sector, other industries such as agriculture, forestry, and fisheries also contributed to the province's economic performance in Q3 2024. BPS NTB noted that the manufacturing sector, particularly in food, beverages, and tobacco products, has played an important role in driving overall economic growth. Despite certain challenges in some areas, the growth of the processing industry has remained a vital element in maintaining economic momentum in NTB, helping to sustain positive trends across multiple sectors in the region.
