Indonesia Allows Private Sector to Develop Electric Vehicle Infrastructures

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry is providing the chance for private enterprises to help develop Indonesia's electric vehicle supporting infrastructures. The supporting infrastructures are classified into recharging stations (SPKLU) and the electric vehicle battery exchange (SPBKLU).

According to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry Regulation No.13 of 2020, enterprises that are permitted to build such infrastructures must hold a special electric supplier business license (IUPTL), which exempts the need to obtain permits from the state-electricity provider PLN. However, enterprises intending to open recharging stations must obtain a special SPKLU identity number, which is obtained after proposing plans to the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry via the director-general.
