The Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is actively supporting the growth of the domestic cosmetics industry to enhance national exports. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency, Indonesia’s exports of cosmetic products, essential oils, and perfumes reached USD 842 million in 2023, with notable contributions from popular brands like Mustika Ratu and Wardah. Deputy Minister of Industry, Faisol Riza, highlighted this growth at the 2024 Cosmetic Day event, held on October 29 at the Ministry’s headquarters. The total market size of the cosmetics industry in 2023 amounted to 467,919 products, reflecting expanding export potential. Faisol also noted that the cosmetics market is projected to grow by 4.8% annually from 2025-2029.
The growth of the cosmetics industry is supported by approximately 1,040 business players, with small and medium-sized enterprises (IKM) accounting for 89% of this number. This thriving sector offers significant opportunities for local entrepreneurs, with six out of the top ten beauty and personal care brands in domestic marketplaces being locally produced. The Ministry expects total revenues in Indonesia's cosmetics sector to reach IDR 30 trillion in 2024. Kemenperin continues to promote development within the industry, particularly among IKM, through initiatives like Cosmetic Day, which aims to increase the presence and competitiveness of local cosmetic products in both national and international markets.
