The Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) provincial government is urging local businesses to obtain Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification, a key requirement for exporting. NTB's Head of Industry, Nuryanti, emphasized that the certification ensures products meet international quality standards. As of now, 16 local companies have acquired HACCP certification, enabling them to export their goods. Among them, PT High Point Fisheries holds a Grade A HACCP certification for frozen tuna products, while PT Blue Ocean Lobster has a Grade B certification for frozen lobster. “HACCP certification is mandatory for exports, serving as quality assurance to export partners,” Nuryanti explained. She also noted that better packaging practices, such as sterilization, can extend product shelf life and open wider market opportunities.
The local government is promoting sterilized packaging for processed products, such as Sate Rembiga and Ayam Taliwang, and plans to extend it to fish products, like Lombok Utara's fish satay. NTB is also collaborating to test other local products, like fish pusut satay, for regulatory approval. The initiative is expected to benefit local fishermen by strengthening the supply chain and boosting post-harvest processing, which can lead to job creation and poverty reduction. NTB has recently exported 217 tons of frozen tuna and lobster, valued at IDR 26 billion, further highlighting the importance of HACCP certification for maintaining product quality and driving exports.
