North Sumatra Rubber Exports will reach 26,042 Tons in September 2024

In September 2024, North Sumatra (Sumut) recorded rubber exports of 26,042 tons, a 15.6% increase compared to August's volume of 22,522 tons. According to Edy Irwansyah, Executive Secretary of Gapkindo Sumut, this increase was largely driven by a rising demand from manufacturing sectors, particularly tire factories in the United States. Although this volume is also 5.9% higher year-on-year compared to September 2023, it remains below the normal monthly level of around 42,000 tons. The U.S. accounted for 28.16% of total export volume, with Japan, India, Brazil, and China also contributing significantly. Exports to Europe also showed positive trends, with shipments to 11 countries, including Germany, Italy, and France, making up 10.14% of total exports for September.

Meanwhile, local rubber supply in North Sumatra remained stable in October as farmers resumed tapping, encouraged by rising rubber prices. The average SICOM-TSR20 price for September was 189.56 cents per kilogram, climbing to 196.1 cents per kilogram by October 24. Edy expressed optimism for the natural rubber industry in Indonesia, noting that increased international demand and stable domestic production could sustain positive momentum. However, weather-related production challenges persist, and industry players are taking steps to maintain supply continuity. This outlook suggests that while positive demand trends are expected through year-end, unpredictable weather conditions may present significant challenges to rubber supply in key regions.
