Indonesia currently hosts a semiconductor manufacturer, PT Infineon Technologies Batam, located in Batamindo Industrial Park, Batam, with a facility spanning 83,000 m². According to Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, semiconductor investment aligns with the government's aim to integrate into the global value chain. "Semiconductors are already in Indonesia. Our Ministry's policy is to ensure we become part of the global value chain in the manufacturing sector," said Agus during a discussion with journalists on October 23, 2024.
Looking ahead, the government intends to focus semiconductor investment in the upstream sector to enhance added value for the country. "We can't build everything all at once. Success requires focus, and we believe the upstream sector, particularly in design, will allow Indonesia to make a significant impact," Agus stated. Semiconductors play a critical role in modern electronics, from sensors and LED displays to solar cells and electric vehicles, which depend on advanced technology systems.
