Government Supports GIIAS, Boosts National Automotive Industry

The 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Semarang officially opened on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, running through Sunday, October 27. The event showcases 19 vehicle brands and 28 automotive product and technology brands. Doddy Rahadi, a representative from Indonesia's Ministry of Industry, emphasized the positive impact of the GIIAS in Semarang, which marks the conclusion of the 2024 GIIAS series. "The Ministry appreciates Gaikindo for the success of the GIIAS this year, which has seen significant achievements across three cities. A total of 39,600 vehicles were sold, amounting to IDR 20.5 trillion," Rahadi noted. The high public enthusiasm for this automotive exhibition is expected to significantly boost the national automotive sector. "With a 4.6% year-on-year increase this year, it's clear we must support further progress in the automotive industry," he added.

Amirullah, Secretary of the Directorate General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, highlighted that the growth of the automotive industry will drive infrastructure development by the government. "We are working on revising government regulations (PP) related to vehicles to keep up with advancing automotive technology," Amirullah explained. Gaikindo has been invited to contribute to drafting these regulations to ensure they align with technological advancements. Additionally, the Ministry of Transportation is planning to establish a mandatory vehicle testing facility for all vehicles produced in Indonesia, aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of export vehicles. GAIKINDO Chairman Yohannes Nangoi mentioned that while there is no specific target for the 2024 GIIAS in Semarang, Central Java continues to be a key market contributing to the success of Indonesia’s automotive industry.
