BP Batam has announced that the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) for Tourism and Health in Batam are expected to be operational by 2026. Acting Head of BP Batam, Purwiyanto, stated on Tuesday that the zones would begin operating after construction is completed. The groundbreaking is projected for November 2024, with construction expected to take around two years. The Sekupang area will focus on health services, while the Nongsa area will cater to tourism, both contributing significantly to Batam's economic growth.
BP Batam is optimistic that the SEZ development will positively impact the local economy. Once fully operational, Batam’s economic growth is projected to increase by 1-2% above the national target. Additionally, strategic collaborations with international partners will enhance Batam's competitiveness as an investment and economic destination. These developments, along with National Strategic Projects in the region, are expected to bolster economic growth, improve community welfare, and strengthen Batam's position as an economic hub in Southeast Asia.
