The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, in collaboration with the National Development Planning Ministry (Bappenas), has introduced guidelines for implementing Blue, Green, and Circular Economy (BGCE) concepts in the tourism sector. These guidelines cover key areas such as hospitality, food services, transportation, and tourism zones. Rizki Handyani, Deputy of Industry and Investment at the Ministry, emphasized that the BGCE framework aims to promote sustainable tourism and long-term competitiveness, addressing issues such as environmental degradation and loss of local culture.
The BGCE concept integrates economic activities with environmental sustainability. The blue economy focuses on balancing maritime conservation with economic growth, the green economy integrates social and environmental concerns, while the circular economy emphasizes resource efficiency. Indonesia, a signatory of the Paris Agreement, is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 29% by 2030, with the potential to reach 41% through international cooperation. These efforts align with the government's goal of making tourism a leading global sector by 2045, contributing up to 8% of GDP and generating $100 billion in foreign exchange.
