The food and beverage industry is a significant contributor to the national economy, especially within the non-oil and gas processing industry sector. In the second quarter of 2024, this industry dominated the GDP structure of the non-oil and gas processing industry, contributing 38.4%. According to Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) at the Ministry of Industry, this significant contribution is driven by the export performance of the food and beverage industry, which in August 2024 reached USD 3.78 billion, accounting for 21.36% of the total value of non-oil and gas processing industry exports.
To boost the performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the food and beverage industry, the IKMA Directorate General actively encourages these enterprises to enhance their competitiveness and economic contribution. One approach is by facilitating connections between SMEs and other economic sectors, both upstream and downstream. Additionally, the IKMA Directorate General collaborates with large industries that have Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs to support SME development. For example, a recent collaboration involved signing a Memorandum of Understanding with PT Arwana Citramulia Tbk and providing symbolic ceramic donations in Singkawang, West Kalimantan, to improve production facilities and help SMEs meet Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.
