Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia Oversees National Halal Certification in North Sulawesi

The Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) is conducting the first phase of national halal certification oversight in 2024 in North Sulawesi Province. This initiative aims to ensure business compliance with halal certification requirements, focusing on slaughterhouses, restaurants, and packaged food and beverages. A coordination meeting was held in Manado, attended by inspectors from regencies and cities, along with the Halal Product Assurance Task Force of the North Sulawesi Provincial Office. Ulyas Taha, Head of the North Sulawesi Office, emphasized the importance of synergy among related agencies for effective implementation. The oversight will take place simultaneously across Indonesia on October 18, 2024.

Siti Nurhotimah from BPJPH highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration and stated that a Technical Guide for the First Phase of Halal Certification Oversight had been prepared. This guide ensures that oversight is conducted uniformly across regions. Inspectors will examine both government and privately-owned slaughterhouses, and in regions without these facilities, the focus will shift to packaged food and beverages in markets. The goal is to ensure all products circulating in the community are halal certified, providing safety and peace of mind for consumers. This oversight is seen as a crucial step in the broader implementation of halal certification, ensuring that products meet the required standards and fostering public confidence.
