The Ministry of Investment/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) is encouraging Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and small businesses in Papua to actively participate as suppliers for industries in the region. Speaking in Jayapura on Tuesday, the Ministry’s Macro-Economic Advisor, Imam Soejoedi, highlighted that local businesses could meet the demands of large industries, such as catering and logistics services. He emphasized that the government has facilitated business licensing for MSMEs in Papua, urging entrepreneurs to seize this opportunity as the region’s industries continue to expand.
Soejoedi further noted that addressing Papua’s geographical and socio-economic challenges requires a shared vision among all stakeholders, including the central and local governments, to work together on developing supportive infrastructure. This would help create jobs and improve local human resource capacity. With these efforts, Papua could transition from being a mere observer of incoming investments to becoming an active player in the region’s economic progress. The government aims to ensure that Papuans not only benefit from the flow of investments but also experience tangible economic and social advancements through technology and knowledge transfer.
