Indonesian Coffee Exports Surge in the Philippines and U.S., Reaching USD 1.49 Billion

Indonesian coffee continues to be a major contributor to the country’s trade surplus, with exports significantly outweighing imports. According to Acting Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, Indonesia's coffee exports from January to September 2024 reached 342.44 thousand tons, valued at USD 1.49 billion, while imports were much smaller at 67.65 thousand tons, worth USD 319.84 million. This marks another year of consistent trade surplus in the coffee sector over the past five years.
In 2024, the Philippines was the top destination for Indonesian coffee exports, with a total volume of 85 thousand tons, followed by the U.S. with 31.73 thousand tons, and Malaysia with 32.33 thousand tons. The majority of the exported coffee included unroasted robusta beans, coffee-based extracts, and instant coffee. Meanwhile, Indonesia imported coffee from Vietnam, Brazil, and Malaysia, with volumes remaining low compared to exports. Indonesian coffee's growing popularity in global markets highlights its strengthening position in international trade.
