Ministry of Agriculture Urges Poultry Industry to Expand Export Markets

The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) is encouraging businesses to expand the export of national poultry products to strengthen global competitiveness, boost the economy, and open new markets. "Indonesian poultry products are recognized and accepted in several countries, so we urge businesses to expand their export efforts," said Agung Suganda, Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry, in Jakarta on Tuesday. Various technical barriers and strict export regulations have been effectively addressed by the government, allowing businesses to navigate the export process smoothly. PT. Gizindo (CPI Group), for instance, exported 38.36 million eggs to Singapore from January to September 2024, valued at USD 4.44 million. Additionally, companies such as PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia and PT. Japfa Comfeed exports live birds and frozen chicken to Singapore, while exporting hatching eggs to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The ministry emphasized that chicken meat and eggs have achieved self-sufficiency, contributing 60% to the livestock sector’s GDP and 10% to national employment. Over the past four years, chicken meat production has grown at an average rate of 4.51% annually, while egg production increased by 5.45%. In 2024, Indonesia produced 3.84 million tons of chicken meat and 6.34 million tons of eggs, with surpluses of 239.09 thousand tons and 173.62 thousand tons, respectively. Agung highlighted that Indonesia's strategic role in global poultry production, despite facing global challenges, signals strong potential for further growth.
