The Indonesian Deputy Minister of Trade, Jerry Sambuaga, emphasized the country's active participation in international trade forums to boost coffee exports, aiming to expand markets and enhance the competitiveness of domestic products globally. He highlighted the Ministry of Trade's commitment to fully support Indonesian exporters, particularly in the coffee sector, through various programs and initiatives, such as promoting Indonesia's active role in international trade discussions. This statement was made during a business forum in Tangerang, Banten, themed “Enhancing Indonesia's Coffee Potential in the Global Market through Sustainable Export Collaboration and Ecosystem.”
Sambuaga noted that as of September 2024, the Ministry had completed 38 trade negotiations, with 17 ongoing and 13 in the preliminary stages. He pointed out traditional export destinations like China, the United States, and Japan, as well as non-traditional markets in South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Eastern Europe. He urged exporters to focus on the “3K” (quantity, quality, and continuity) and to familiarize themselves with regulations in export destinations to ensure consistent quality. With global coffee imports growing by 12% over the past five years, Sambuaga stressed the need for effective strategies to meet rising demand for specialty, premium, and environmentally friendly coffee. The Ministry is also facilitating export processes through digitalization and capacity-building programs for coffee entrepreneurs to enhance product quality and marketing strategies.
