Production of wood pellets from Gorontalo, through PT Biomassa Jaya Abadi (BJA), has successfully penetrated the Japanese market with shipments using the MV Lakas vessel from Gorontalo Port to Fushiki, Japan. This vessel was previously detained by Bakamla RI on August 15, 2024, due to the absence of three important documents: Certificate of Analysis, Certificate of Origin, and Certificate of Shipper Declaration. However, after presenting all required permits, including the Sailing Approval Letter (SPB) on August 16, 2024, the MV Lakas was allowed to continue its voyage on August 18, 2024.
A review of BJA's operations by Acting Regent of Pohuwato, Suharsi Igirisa, indicated that the company has complied with legal requirements. Dikki Akhmar, General of the Indonesian Biomass Energy Producers Association (APREBI), emphasized that allegations of illegal wood pellet exports could harm exporters and damage Gorontalo's reputation internationally. He stressed that the issue of vessel detention could disrupt the investment climate in the region, as shipping companies may be reluctant to transport products from Gorontalo if perceived as risky.
