Indonesia has exported 30 containers of fisheries products valued at USD 1.315 million, or approximately IDR 19.79 billion, to China, the United States, Australia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Jordan. These exports, which include frozen Yellowfin Tuna, Skipjack, Squid, Milkfish, Barramundi, and Snapper, were shipped in stages from October 11 to 13, 2024. According to the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, this export highlights Indonesia’s continued strong presence in the global fisheries market, despite challenges posed by the slowing economies of major trading partners due to weakened consumer demand.
To maintain export momentum, the government is focusing on diversifying target markets, aiming for fisheries exports to reach USD 7.2 billion by the end of 2024. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is also offering support through quality raw material supply, robust quality assurance systems, and efficient logistics and distribution networks. Additionally, market access and promotion efforts are being intensified to bolster national export performance. In the January-August 2024 period, Indonesia’s fisheries exports reached USD 3.73 billion, led by shrimp at 27.8%, followed by tuna-skipjack (17.5%), squid-octopus (14.1%), and crabs (9.6%). Tuna-skipjack remains a significant export to the US, contributing 12.3%, and also enjoys strong demand in Japan, Vietnam, Australia, the Philippines, and Jordan.
