Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono revealed that numerous companies have applied for concessions to manage sea sand, following the reopening of sea sand export permits after a 20-year ban. While there is high interest in obtaining permits for utilizing sedimentation sand, the Ministry has not yet granted any approvals. Minister Trenggono emphasized the necessity for stringent checks before issuing permits, including comprehensive evaluations of proposed export destinations and local demands. This careful approach ensures that all regulatory requirements are met and that economic benefits do not compromise environmental sustainability. The decision to reopen sea sand export opportunities aligns with recent amendments by the Ministry of Trade, which conform to Government Regulation No. 26 of 2023 concerning the management of sedimentation products. Export permits will only be granted once it is confirmed that domestic needs are fully satisfied, reflecting a commitment to balancing economic growth with sustainable practices. The emphasis on rigorous verification underscores the importance of regulatory compliance and environmental protection.
