President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his confidence that Indonesia can become one of the new economic superpowers alongside China and India. This statement was made during the opening of the BNI Investor Daily Summit 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Senayan, DKI Jakarta Province, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Jokowi emphasized the importance of maintaining optimism in the face of global challenges such as climate change, economic slowdown, and increasing geopolitical tensions, all of which impact the global and Indonesian economies.
Despite these challenges, Indonesia continues to show positive economic performance, with the national economy growing above 5% compared to the global growth rate of around 2.7-2.8%. Jokowi highlighted Indonesia's significant potential for becoming a developed country, citing steady economic growth at 5.08% in the second quarter of 2024, controlled inflation at 2-3%, and an increasing Consumer Confidence Index. He stressed the importance of downstreaming and digitalization to enhance Indonesia's competitiveness and urged for a focus on developing digital infrastructure and adding value to domestic resources through industrial downstreaming.
