Since the beginning of his second term, President Joko Widodo has launched a monumental ambition to relocate the national capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in East Kalimantan. This strategic move aims to create a more sustainable and integrated economic center. President Jokowi envisions Nusantara not only as a symbol of national identity but also as a manifestation of the nation's progress, promoting economic equality across Indonesia. As of September 2024, the total investment in Nusantara has exceeded IDR 57 trillion across 59 projects. Notably, there have been eight groundbreaking ceremonies held since September 2023, demonstrating tangible progress in attracting both domestic and international investments.
In August 2024, Nusantara hosted the 79th anniversary ceremony of Indonesia’s independence for the first time, emphasizing the government's commitment to realizing the vision of Nusantara as a national identity symbol. This ambitious development plan remains a top priority for President Jokowi in his second term, with strong support expected to continue under the leadership of elected President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who are set to advance the establishment of a new economic hub in the heart of Indonesia.
