First Export Success: Basreng and Various Chips from Bekasi Enter the Japanese Market

PT Elok Niaga Indonesia, an MSME fostered by Bekasi Customs, successfully conducted its first export of various snack products, including basreng, tempe chips, oncom chips, and tofu chips, to Japan. The shipment was made through Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Friday, 27 September 2024. PT Elok Niaga Indonesia, under the Mama Yon brand, plans to continue exporting to Japan due to the high demand for traditional snacks. According to Undani, Head of the Counseling and Information Services Division at Bekasi Customs, despite several challenges, such as Japan’s strict regulations on food imports, the obstacles were overcome through persistence, collaboration, and innovation. The Customs office provided support through the Export Clinic program, focusing on capacity-building in marketing and customs clearance for the MSME.

The owner of PT Elok Niaga Indonesia, Dadang Hernanto, expressed his optimism following the success of the first export. He noted that the snacks, packaged in a modern style, were well received not only by Indonesian migrant workers but also by the Japanese public. Hernanto believes that the market in Japan remains open due to the shared cultural tastes between the two countries. With the ongoing support of various stakeholders, including Bekasi Customs, he is confident that more local products will soon reach international markets.
