The Head of BPS Maluku, Maritje Pattiwaellapia, announced that Maluku's export value in August 2024 reached USD 1.05 million, originating from non-oil and gas commodities. This value increased by approximately 153.61% compared to July 2024, which recorded USD 0.41 million. "In September 2024, the non-oil and gas commodities exported included fresh tuna, frozen fish, grouper, and live crabs," Pattiwaellapia stated. Maluku's exports primarily targeted ASEAN member countries, amounting to USD 0.48 million to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Additionally, exports also reached other Asian countries, totaling USD 0.53 million, which comprised USD 0.39 million to Hong Kong and around USD 0.13 million to Japan. "Exports to ASEAN countries increased by about 34.18% compared to July 2024, while exports to other Asian regions rose by approximately 908.21% compared to the previous month," she explained.
Exports from Maluku in August 2024 were conducted through two main ports, Yos Sudarso Port and Pattimura Airport. Compared to July 2024, there was an increase in export value at Yos Sudarso Port by 258.67% and at Pattimura Airport by about 27.12%. This rise indicates a growing export activity from Maluku, significantly contributed by fisheries commodities like fresh tuna, frozen fish, grouper, and live crabs. This also reflects the substantial potential of Maluku in the fisheries sector, which continues to expand and contribute to both regional and national economies. The strategic efforts and improved logistics at the ports are expected to sustain this positive trend, bolstering Maluku's economic development through enhanced export performance.
