Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt, Lutfi Rauf, announced a significant rise in Indonesia’s household electronics exports to Egypt, with refrigerator exports (HS code 8418) hitting USD 5.45 million from January to June 2024. This marks an 87.87% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when the value was USD 2.9 million. The announcement was made during the Business Forum and Appreciation Night for Indonesian Electronic Product Agents and Distributors, as well as the 2024 Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) Socialization, held in Hurghada, Egypt, on 28 September 2024.
Ambassador Lutfi emphasized that Indonesian household electronics, including ovens, coffee and tea makers, and food processors, are increasingly present in the Egyptian market. In addition, products such as water dispensers, toasters, vacuum cleaners, and blenders from Indonesia are gaining traction in Egypt. While Indonesia remains one of Egypt's largest exporters of refrigerators, the 60% import duty on household electronics remains a challenge, prompting discussions for a potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The bilateral trade between Indonesia and Egypt has shown a surplus of USD 648.7 million for Indonesia from January to July 2024, with total exports reaching USD 760.1 million.
