Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan announced that coffee will be a top priority in Prabowo Subianto’s upcoming administration. Indonesia, with its vast archipelago of coffee plantations, is globally renowned for the quality of its coffee beans. To boost the productivity of Indonesian coffee, the government plans to prioritize coffee in the global trade market. Speaking at the 'Celebrating The Farmers Behind Your Favorite Nespresso Coffee from Indonesia' talk show held in Jakarta on 2 October, Zulkifli stated that coffee and other agricultural products like coconut and cocoa will be central to the new government's economic strategy.
He further explained that a proposal has already been submitted to Prabowo, outlining plans to focus on these key commodities. The government will establish agricultural clusters, with regions specializing in coffee, cocoa, cloves, and other crops. Zulkifli also mentioned that large-scale rice farming, previously concentrated in Java and Sumatra, will be expanded to Papua, where nearly 2 million rice plants have been successfully cultivated. Additionally, corn and sugarcane will also be developed in Papua. Zulkifli assured coffee entrepreneurs that coffee will remain a priority alongside other agricultural products under Prabowo’s leadership.
