The Central Bureau of Statistics of South Kalimantan (BPS Kalsel) reported that the value of exports from South Kalimantan reached USD 946.33 million in August 2024, marking a significant increase of 27.60% compared to July 2024, which saw exports valued at USD 741.66 million. When compared to the export value of August 2023, which was USD 878.68 million, there was also a rise of 7.70%. According to Harmonized System (HS) codes, the leading contributor to this increase was the mineral fuels category (HS 27), which accounted for USD 834.46 million, up 21.19% from July 2024's USD 688.55 million. The second-largest category was fats and oils from animals and plants (HS 15), contributing USD 75.04 million, a remarkable increase of 341.68% from USD 16.99 million in July 2024. In terms of contribution to total exports in August 2024, mineral fuels (HS 27) made up 88.18%, followed by fats and oils (HS 15) at approximately 7.93%, and wood and wood products (HS 44) at 1.77%.
In contrast, the value of imports to South Kalimantan reached USD 145.65 million in August 2024, reflecting a decline of 43.70% compared to USD 258.70 million in July 2024. However, when compared to the import value of August 2023, which was USD 93.42 million, imports in August 2024 increased by 55.91%. The five highest-value imported goods to South Kalimantan included mineral fuels (HS 27) at USD 125.48 million and machinery and mechanical appliances (HS 84) at USD 9.17 million. Other notable categories included ships, boats, and floating structures (HS 89) at approximately USD 7.33 million, machinery and electrical equipment (HS 85) at USD 1.33 million, and furniture, lamps, and lighting equipment (HS 94) at USD 0.56 million. The contributions of these five categories were HS 27 at 86.15%, HS 84 at 6.30%, HS 89 at 5.03%, HS 85 at 0.92%, and HS 94 at 0.38% of total imports in August 2024. The total value of these five commodities reached USD 143.87 million, accounting for 98.78% of total imports, a decrease of 43.53% from USD 254.76 million in July 2024.
