The South Kalimantan Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) reported a positive economic condition for the province, with an inflation rate of 1.71% (yoy) and deflation of 0.36% (mtm) in August 2024. Head of DJPb Syafriadi stated in Banjarmasin on September 30, 2024, that the inflation indicator of 1.71% is relatively low compared to the national average of 2.12% (yoy). Major contributors to inflation in South Kalimantan include gold jewelry, sugar, parking fees, and kretek cigarettes. Among the regions measured, Banjarmasin had the highest inflation rate at 2.20% (yoy), while Hulu Sungai Tengah (HST) District had the lowest at 0.72% (yoy). Public spending during the month was driven by Independence Day celebrations, sports competitions, arts, and other activities. Government spending continued on infrastructure projects and planned programs. The trade balance returned to a surplus but showed a -7.37% contraction compared to the same period in 2023. However, there was a 35.58% increase on a month-to-month basis, with a surplus of USD 917.66 million in August 2024.
Despite the positive indicators, state income in South Kalimantan is falling, necessitating strategic steps to meet the APBN (State Budget) performance target. Revenue until August 2024 was realized at IDR 13.46 trillion or 59.27% of the target, reflecting a 17.10% contraction compared to the same period in 2023. The contraction decreased compared to the previous month, with a target to achieve state revenue by year-end. Conversely, Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) showed positive growth of 11.64%, realizing IDR 1.23 trillion. Total state expenditure realization was IDR 24.79 trillion or 64.00% of the ceiling, a 29.97% increase compared to last year. The expenditure for August 2024 included Central Government Expenditure (BPP) of IDR 5.77 trillion and Transfer to Regions (TKD) of IDR 19.12 trillion.
