Indonesia's Household Electronic Exports to Egypt See Significant Growth

Indonesia’s household electronic products, including refrigerators, ovens, coffee and tea machines, food processors, water dispensers, toasters, vacuum cleaners, blenders, mixers, and irons, have seen a significant surge in popularity in international markets, particularly in Egypt. This is largely due to the high quality and affordable pricing of these products. Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt, Dr. Lutfi Rauf, stated that this growth reflects the competitiveness of Indonesian products in the Egyptian market. He made these remarks at the Business Forum and Appreciation Night for Indonesian Electronic Products Agents and Distributors, and the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2024, held in Hurghada on 28 September 2024. Founder of UK Device Manufacturing, Ahmad Ragab Al Kalla, praised the quality of Indonesian electronic products, acknowledging their appeal among Egyptian consumers. Al Kalla, who has been the sole agent for several Indonesian brands, including Maspion, Polytron, Miyako, and OK Appliances, has been importing both finished and component electronic goods, assembling them in the 6 October City industrial area, Giza.

Indonesian Ambassador Lutfi Rauf also appreciated the strong trade cooperation between UK Device Manufacturing and Indonesian producers. He expressed hope that ongoing discussions about reducing Egypt’s 60% import tariff on household electronics, a topic in the recent Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meeting on 31 July 2024, would lead to a Free Trade Agreement. M. Syahran Bhakti, Indonesia’s Trade Attaché in Cairo, noted that Indonesia ranked as the 7th largest exporter of refrigerators to Egypt from January to June 2024. During this period, refrigerator exports (HS Code 8418) reached USD 5.45 million, an increase of 87.87% compared to USD 2.9 million in the same period in 2023. This increase highlights the growing potential for further entry of Indonesian electronics into the Egyptian market.
