Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has emphasized the potential of the growing creative economy, driven by the youth, to transform the country into a global innovation hub. The Indonesian government acknowledges the nation's young population as a valuable asset for boosting the creative economy's growth. Speaking in Jakarta on Friday, Airlangga remarked, "The future of Indonesia's creative industry is promising. Economic stability, a young and creative population, combined with a rich cultural heritage, provide a strong foundation for growth." The creative economy's added value is projected to reach IDR 1.347 trillion by 2024, with major sub-sectors including culinary arts, fashion, and handicrafts significantly contributing to national GDP and creating over 20 million jobs. This growth strengthens Indonesia’s position in global exports.
Furthermore, Airlangga noted that the global shift towards digitalization and innovation has opened new opportunities for Indonesia's creative sector, including film, music, animation, gaming, fashion, and digital art. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and blockchain are revolutionizing how creative content is produced, distributed, and consumed. “Indonesia must seize this moment by optimizing these technological advancements and integrating them into its creative industries,” he stated. Indonesia's rich cultural diversity also serves as a strong asset, with the potential to elevate the country’s creative industries to a global stage. By combining Indonesia's unique cultural assets with modern technology, the nation can develop world-class creative products and services that gain international recognition. Airlangga stressed that strong collaboration between the government, private sector, and educational institutions is essential for building a robust creative ecosystem that not only contributes to Indonesia's economic growth but also promotes its culture and creativity on the global stage.
