The Crucial Role of Maritime Transport in Indonesia’s Economic Growth

The Director-General of Sea Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Antoni Arif Priadi, highlighted the importance of enhancing maritime transport to drive national economic growth. Speaking at the 2024 Technical Coordination Meeting on Sea Traffic and Transport in Bogor, Antoni urged his department to positively contribute to the sector. He stressed that improving maritime transport would significantly impact the nation's economy and welfare, especially in enhancing connectivity and logistics distribution across Indonesia's 17,000 islands. Maritime transportation plays a crucial role in reaching remote areas, supporting international trade, and ensuring public welfare. Antoni also pointed out that the sector's performance is pivotal in preparing for the Nusantara capital city (IKN), providing pioneer ship fleets, implementing the sea toll program, and advancing information technology in logistics.

Antoni further emphasized the importance of improving services and innovation in this sector. The meeting, themed "Accelerating Sea Traffic, Advancing Indonesia," called on stakeholders, including central and regional governments, to maintain cooperation and coordination. Antoni urged local technical unit heads to collaborate with academics, associations, and the media to achieve a competitive maritime sector. Additionally, Hartanto, Director of Sea Traffic and Transport, reiterated the focus on Indonesia's Vision 2045, calling for enhanced services and infrastructure development. The event concluded with the 2024 LALA Awards, recognizing shipping companies with the largest fleets, the best ship maintenance operators, and the fastest inaportnet service ports.
