The government of Subang Regency in West Java has received approval and support from the central government for the development of two special economic zones (KEK) in the area. Acting Regent of Subang, Imran, stated that the central government, through the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, had accepted a presentation on the development plans for these zones. Together with Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin and directors from PT Wahana Mitra Semesta and PT Aneka Bumi Cipta, the development plans for the Patimban and Subang special economic zones were outlined. PT Wahana Mitra Semesta will develop the Patimban Special Economic Zone, while PT Aneka Bumi Cipta will manage the Subang Special Economic Zone. Imran expressed gratitude for the central government’s approval, noting that these developments are expected to significantly boost investment in Subang, enhancing economic growth and job creation. He emphasized that with the central government’s approval, the focus will now be on coordinating infrastructure preparation and action plans to ensure the successful implementation of these economic zones.
In the broader economic context, Indonesia’s economic growth has remained resilient at around 5%, outpacing the global average of 3.4%. This success is attributed to effective coordination between the central and local governments and the support of the Indonesian populace. The 2024 National Coordination Meeting on Regional Digitalization Acceleration (Rakornas P2DD) highlighted Indonesia’s commitment to digital economic growth, emphasizing the importance of digitalizing local government transactions. With an increase in participating local governments from 87.9% in 2023 to 93.7% in 2024, there has been notable progress in non-cash transactions, enhancing economic efficiency. Furthermore, the Indonesian government’s focus on human resource investment, particularly in education, skills, and health, is seen as critical for maintaining sustainable economic growth and avoiding the middle-income trap. Innovations in technology and green economy sectors are also prioritized to ensure competitiveness and environmental sustainability.
