Positive news emerges from Indonesia's tourism sector, with the country achieving a remarkable rise of 10 positions in the 2024 Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI), as reported by the World Economic Forum (WEF). This index provides an updated assessment of tourism development in various countries following the pandemic. Released on May 21, 2024, the TTDI shows Indonesia advancing to the 22nd position globally, up from its previous ranking in 2021, marking a total increase of 20 places since the 2019 TTDI.
Notably, Indonesia has outperformed several high-income countries, including New Zealand (25), Ireland (24), and Belgium (23). The country received its highest scores in the policy and enabling conditions dimension, which evaluates prioritization, openness, and price competitiveness. In this category, Indonesia achieved the 4th highest score globally. Additionally, the nation ranked 7th out of 119 countries in the sustainability dimension, assessed on three main pillars: environmental sustainability, socio-economic impact, and demand sustainability. The TTDI is released biennially and evaluates countries based on business conditions, safety and health, infrastructure and services, tourism policies, and tourism resources.
