The Head of the Batam Business Authority (BP Batam), Muhammad Rudi, represented by Irfan Syakir Widyasa, Head of KPBPBB and SEZ Development, spoke at the Industry Suppliers Networking Session during the Medical Fair Asia 2024 & Medical Manufacturing Asia, held on 12 September 2024 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Organized by Medical Fair Asia (MFA) in collaboration with the Economic Development Board of Singapore (EDB), the event was themed "Navigating the MedTech and Healthcare Landscape: Regional Insight" and "Driving Growth: Optimising Supply Chain For The Southeast Asian Healthcare Markets." BP Batam’s presence attracted 1,000 companies from 62 countries and more than 14,000 visitors seeking access to advanced medical devices and medtech systems. BP Batam, under the leadership of Muhammad Rudi, successfully pushed the central government in May 2024 to issue regulations for Batam International Health Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

The SEZ, covering a total area of 47.17 hectares, is divided into two sections: 23.10 hectares in Sekupang for integrated health tourism and 24.08 hectares in Nongsa for tourism. The Batam International Health Tourism SEZ is expected to attract IDR 6.91 trillion in investment by 2032 and create 105,406 jobs over the next 80 years. Key investors include Apollo Hospitals India and Mayapada Group for the international hospital. Irfan Syakir expressed hope that such events will be held regularly to update all participants on the latest developments in medical technology. Muhammad Rudi, BP Batam’s Head, also highlighted Batam's rapid development and its potential to attract further investments that will boost the economy and improve the community's well-being.
