The Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2024 is projected to secure investments worth USD 3.7 billion (IDR 57.02 trillion, exchange rate as of Friday, 13 September = IDR 15,410) through various agreements set to be signed during the event. Chairman of the IIGCE 2024 Organizing Committee, Boyke Bratakusuma, emphasized the potential of the event in fostering innovation and collaboration to accelerate geothermal energy development in Indonesia. He highlighted the showcase of cutting-edge technologies like Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) and the utilization of geothermal energy for direct applications such as heating and cooling. Additionally, the convention will host discussions on funding, policies, and regulatory frameworks to address challenges in geothermal development.
Despite existing obstacles, optimism remains high that geothermal energy will play a crucial role in Indonesia's energy transition toward a greener future. IIGCE 2024 is expected to be a strategic platform for stakeholders to share insights and solutions to overcome the challenges in geothermal energy development. Key agreements to be signed include a renewable energy partnership between New Zealand and Indonesia, a MoU between Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Iceland’s Ministry of Environment, and various collaborations involving Pertamina Geothermal Energy, Geo Dipa Energi, and the University of Auckland, among others. The event aims to accelerate geothermal development and help Indonesia reach its net-zero target by 2060. It concludes that IIGCE 2024 will serve as a pivotal moment for advancing Indonesia’s geothermal energy potential.
