In January-July 2024, East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim) exported various commodities worth USD 11.6 billion through five main ports: Samarinda, Balikpapan, Bonthan Bay, Tanjung Bara, and Adang Bay. "The major contributor is Port of Samarinda, accounting for USD 3.83 billion," said Yusniar Juliana, Head of the East Kalimantan Statistics Office, in Samarinda on Sunday. This represents a 22.13% decrease compared to the same period in 2023, where exports from this port were valued at USD 4.92 billion. The second largest contributor was Port of Balikpapan, with exports amounting to USD 3.46 billion, showing a 10.95% decrease from USD 3.88 billion the previous year. The third largest was Port of Tanjung Bara in East Kutai, with exports of USD 2.4 billion, down 9.11% from USD 2.64 billion. Port of Bonthan Bay in Sulawesi saw a significant increase, with exports reaching USD 1.09 billion, a 496.73% rise from USD 183.76 million. Lastly, Port of Adang Bay in Penajam Paser Utara.
In addition to these five ports, other ports contributed to the total export value of USD 14.18 billion, which represents a 14.92% decrease from USD 16.66 billion in the previous period. Mining commodities remained the primary export for Kaltim during January-July 2024, contributing 73.44%, followed by industrial products at 16.61%, and oil and gas exports at 9.78%.
