The South Kalimantan Provincial Government, through the Trade Office of South Kalimantan, held a Foreign Trade Policy Socialization event featuring speakers from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Trade and the Southern Kalimantan Customs and Excise Office. The event, held at a star-rated hotel in Banjarmasin on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, was attended by local exporters. In his opening remarks, read by Muhammad Syarief, Head of the Trade Office of South Kalimantan, Syarief highlighted the importance of staying updated on the latest foreign trade policies. He reported that South Kalimantan's export value for July 2024 reached USD 722 million, a 22% decrease from USD 883 million in June 2024. The top five export commodities in July included mining products, wood, natural rubber, palm oil, and fisheries, with mining products, particularly coal, dominating 90% of the total. The heavy reliance on coal exports means that any decrease in coal prices or demand from importing countries significantly impacts South Kalimantan’s overall export value. Syarief noted that fluctuations in global coal prices and reduced demand from importing countries have heavily affected coal exports. He emphasized that foreign trade policies are critical actions taken to address issues in international trade relations and protect national interests. Syarief urged exporters and business operators to support government efforts by enhancing their operations and continuously innovating to expand export markets, thereby contributing to national revenue and the prosperity of the nation.
