Japan Becomes the Main Export Destination for Central Kalimantan

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto visited Vancouver, Canada, to strengthen Indonesia-Canada cooperation in advancing clean technology-driven economic development. This initiative aims to drive long-term, sustainable economic growth amid climate change challenges. Hartarto emphasized that clean economy development presents opportunities for creating green jobs and advancing smart farming. According to WRI Indonesia, adopting green economy principles could boost Indonesia's GDP by an average of 6.3% from 2025 to 2045 and generate 1.7 million green jobs by 2045. Indonesia's vast potential in clean technology includes renewable energy sources like solar, wind, water, and biomass, with an estimated capacity of up to 443.2 gigawatts. The country is seeing rapid growth in its clean-tech startup ecosystem, with around 300 startups, some at Series A funding stages.

During his visit, Hartarto sought to bring back clean technologies to accelerate Indonesia's energy transition. Key areas of cooperation include developing and applying renewable energy technologies, managing waste and recycling projects, and joint research and development (R&D). Canada, with its advanced waste management and recycling technologies, could assist Indonesia in reducing environmental impacts through modern recycling facilities and waste water treatment programs. Additionally, collaborative R&D projects could focus on alternative fuels, emission reduction technologies, and energy efficiency improvements. Hartarto also explored opportunities for semiconductor technology development, leveraging Canada's expertise in this sector. By fostering these collaborations, Indonesia and Canada aim to enhance bilateral relations and contribute to global climate action efforts.
