Majalengka's Gedong Gincu mangoes have the potential to significantly boost the region's local revenue (PAD). The Majalengka Regency Government is planning to enter the export market with this commodity, positioning Majalengka as one of the largest mango producers in West Java. According to data from BPS, Majalengka's mango production reached 374,407 quintals in 2023, with Majalengka District contributing the highest output at 107,738 quintals, followed by Panyingkiran District with 61,556 quintals. Given the abundant mango production, the government is committed to marketing the Gedong Gincu mango to Japan. This unique Majalengka variety has been registered with the Ministry of Agriculture, securing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on 19 January 1995.
Acting Regent of Majalengka, Dedi Supandi, stated on Tuesday (3/9/2024) that preparations for the export of Gedong Gincu mangoes to Japan are nearly complete, with quarantine procedures in place. Although Majalengka has lagged behind other regions in export activities, particularly within the Cirebon area, Dedi is determined to enhance Majalengka’s export market. The export plan is set to commence in October. Despite challenges, Dedi emphasized that this initiative would ensure that the export origin is Majalengka, directly benefiting the local economy. To support the export program, Majalengka aims to expand mango production, with a planned increase in cultivation area to 34 hectares.
