On the sidelines of the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum in Bali, Indonesia's Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi held a bilateral meeting with Angola's Minister of State and Chief of Staff Adão de Almeida on September 2. They discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, agro-industry, and fisheries. Minister Retno emphasized that the already strong political relations between Indonesia and Angola should be complemented with robust economic cooperation, highlighting that economic collaboration should be a mutual priority. She urged the commencement of negotiations for the Indonesia-Angola Preferential Tariff Agreement (PTA), which is expected to solidify economic ties and create more business and investment opportunities. Minister Adão de Almeida agreed on the importance of enhancing economic cooperation, expressing Angola's desire to explore further potential in sectors such as oil, minerals, healthcare, and food security. He also expressed a hope for Angola to become self-sufficient in medicine production and invited Indonesian investors to support this goal. Angola plans to hold separate meetings with Biofarma and Pertamina to identify other potential collaborations. Additionally, he expressed a desire to continue discussions on oil sector cooperation with Indonesia. Both ministers agreed to diversify economic commodities and explore various potential sectors, including industrial downstream, agro-industry, and fisheries. Furthermore, they discussed the planned visit of Angola's President to Indonesia in early 2025 and the expected deliverables from this visit. Minister Retno congratulated Angola on opening its embassy in Jakarta, marking a strengthening of relations since diplomatic ties were established in 2001.
