Acting Governor Adhy Karyono Reports East Java Automotive Industry Exports Reach USD117.6 Million

Acting Governor of East Java, Adhy Karyono, highlighted that the automotive industry is a key sector for East Java. The sector's growth has been significant, with East Java's automotive industry export value reaching USD 117.6 million by March 2024. Adhy expressed optimism that the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) would bolster East Java's position in both the national and international automotive industries. He emphasized the need to continually enhance competitiveness and expand market reach for automotive products. Speaking at the GIIAS exhibition at Grand City Convex Surabaya, Adhy cited data from the Ministry of Industry's Data and Information Center, indicating a strong export performance for East Java's automotive industry. In 2022, exports amounted to USD 568.5 million, and from January to March 2024, exports reached USD 117.6 million, primarily to Japan, the United States, and Timor Leste. This demonstrates East Java's strength in automotive production, capable of meeting domestic demand and penetrating export markets with significant potential.

Adhy also noted that automotive exhibitions do more than stimulate the economy; they foster innovation in the automotive industry, particularly in the development of electric vehicles and eco-friendly technology. This aligns with efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve environmental sustainability targets. He stressed the importance of eco-friendly vehicle technology and contemporary innovations due to intense competition and the growing trend among East Java residents toward environmentally friendly vehicles. The East Java provincial government fully supports the development of the automotive industry as it impacts regional income. This support includes facilitating production, easing factory construction permits, and marketing at affordable prices. Acting Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics (ILMATE) at the Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika, added that GIIAS significantly boosts the automotive industry. East Java contributes notably to motor vehicle sales, with approximately 43,000 units sold from the province, reflecting strong public enthusiasm for the latest automotive technology.
