The automotive industry has emerged as a key sector in East Java, as highlighted by Acting Governor Adhy Karyono during the opening of the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in Surabaya on August 28, 2024. According to Adhy, this sector has seen significant growth, with East Java's automotive industry exports reaching USD 117.6 million as of March 2024. He expressed optimism that the GIIAS exhibition would further strengthen East Java's position in both the national and international automotive markets. To achieve this, it is essential to continuously enhance competitiveness and expand the market reach of automotive products. Adhy further elaborated that data from the Ministry of Industry's Data and Information Center indicates a positive trend in East Java's automotive industry exports. In 2022, the export value reached USD 568.5 million, and from January to March 2024, exports amounted to USD 117.6 million, with key destinations including Japan, the United States, and Timor Leste. This demonstrates East Java's strong production capabilities, which not only meet domestic demand but also penetrate export markets with substantial potential.  He also emphasized that automotive exhibitions like GIIAS play a vital role in stimulating economic activity and driving innovation in the automotive industry, particularly in the development of electric vehicles and environmentally friendly technologies. These initiatives align with efforts to reduce carbon emissions and achieve established environmental sustainability targets. The GIIAS exhibition, held from August 28 to September 1, 2024, was officially opened by Acting Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industries (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika, along with the Acting Governor of East Java and the Chairman of GAIKINDO.
