The Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Office of South Kalimantan (Kalsel) has certified the health of 1.7 million exported mangrove crabs in the first half of 2024, with a total export value reaching IDR 40 billion. "By mid-year, there have been 167 export shipments of mangrove crabs, with the latest shipment involving 4,184 live mangrove crabs sent from Syamsudin Noor Airport to China," stated Sudirman, Head of Kalsel Quarantine, in Banjarmasin. The export destinations primarily include China, Malaysia, and Singapore. All shipments of aquatic commodities, including crabs, must be reported and meet quarantine requirements, such as being free from white spot syndrome virus (WSSV). Additionally, the crabs must meet specific size and weight requirements, and the type and quantity must match the provided documentation. The entire certification process ensures that the commodities are healthy, fit for consumption, and accepted in the destination countries. Ensuring the quality and health of these exports helps maintain trust with destination countries and enhances product competitiveness for future exports. Sudirman emphasized that this certification process aligns with the directives from the Indonesian Quarantine Agency and involves collaboration with customs, airports, cargo companies, and local governments to promote sustainable economic growth.
