Recently, a truckload of Indonesian rattan was delivered to Bobai Huangtu Arts and Crafts Company in Yulin, Guangxi, China. The rattan will be crafted into bread fermentation bowls and lampshade covers, soon to be sold in Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, Europe, and other regions. Huang Lianjiang, the company’s manager, praised Indonesian rattan for its durability, density, and hardness, which meet the company’s product standards. Due to its high quality, the company has maintained a long-standing partnership with Indonesia. Rattan craftsmanship, regarded as an intangible cultural heritage, has evolved from a local craft to a globally marketed product. Huang shared his entrepreneurial journey, expressing his pride in seeing their products, once only sold in China, now popular in over 20 countries. Indonesian rattan connects farmers in Indonesia with markets worldwide, facilitated by platforms like Alibaba International Station, showcasing the growing international cooperation in the industry.

Embracing e-commerce, the company has been using livestreaming since 2022 to introduce and promote their products to international customers. Liu Baiyou, the company’s foreign trade manager, noted the appeal of rattan crafts, especially their eco-friendliness and natural qualities. As demand for rattan products grows, the company hopes to introduce more countries to Chinese culture through their craftsmanship. Bobai in Yulin, renowned for its rattan weaving heritage dating back nearly a thousand years, now exports these products to over 60 countries, further cementing its status as a leading rattan craft exporter.
