Agricultural Exports via Entikong Surpass One Thousand Tons

The export volume of agricultural commodities through the Entikong Border Crossing (PLBN Entikong) in West Kalimantan continues to show growth, reaching over one thousand tons in the first seven months of 2024 despite some monthly fluctuations. Triandana Sudarto, Head of the PLBN Entikong Quarantine Service Unit for Animals, Fish, and Plants in West Kalimantan, announced on Monday, 26 August 2024, that the overall export trend up to the third semester of 2024 remains positive. Exports to Malaysia have significantly increased, particularly in categories such as fruits, vegetables, and plantation products including pepper, copra, and palm sugar. Additionally, non-forest derived products like charcoal have contributed to the rising export volumes. Monthly export figures from January to July 2024 indicate variability, with exports peaking at 375,311 tons in February and dipping to 104,490 tons in April, followed by a rise to 203,747 tons in July. In total, agricultural exports via PLBN Entikong reached 1,442,030 tons during this period, reflecting a 34 percent decrease compared to 2,857,750 tons in the same timeframe in 2023.

Despite the year-on-year decline, the current growth in specific commodity groups and expanding markets highlight the resilience and potential of West Kalimantan's agricultural sector. The increase in exports of fruits, vegetables, plantation products, and non-forest products like charcoal demonstrates the diverse capabilities of local producers and their ability to access new markets. Triandana emphasized that support from various programs and initiatives has enabled local farmers and exporters to overcome challenges and seize new opportunities in international trade. The continued focus on enhancing product quality and expanding market reach is expected to further strengthen the regional economy and improve the welfare of the local community. This development underscores the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining and growing agricultural exports through Entikong, positioning West Kalimantan as a key player in Indonesia’s agricultural export landscape.
